You really should just keep both the RAM and the hard drive though, as the RAM ( as long as it fits in your PCs RAM slots ) can be used to give your PC more RAM to work with, speeding it up. But if you find a way to make every single location on the drive 0, then there will be absolutely nothing to recover. I would put the disk in another PC, format it, and then, using a program you made, or if you know assembly or some other way to work really low level with hardware, then you could write over every single spot with zeroes, as all that happens when you format it / install a new file system is mark everything on the drive as free space, which can then be recovered.
